why we send help, part one

There's this weird thing that happens once you become a grown-up. After years of attempting to self-promote and self-sustain, figuring out who you are and what you want to do with your life, working to educate yourself and then working to put bread on the table... you get to the point where you finally say to yourself, There has to be more to life than my own awesomeness.

When this occurred to me, I have to admit it surprised me a little. But once it had rattled around in my brain for awhile and had a chance to settle in, it seemed important to do something about it.

I'm glad I'm friends with Natalie. Not only is she an awesome graphic designer and a great person to work alongside, she gets this stuff much more naturally than I do. She sees a person in need and immediately wants to become a part of the solution. She has a generous heart. So, when God starts talking to me and I suddenly get this itch to do something with my talents that helps somebody other than me, Natalie's already right there, ready to go. We start talking about children who need help, and all of the people we know who are trying to help them... small non-profit organizations in the states, groups that are rescuing girls out of the sex trade, virtually invisible orphanages in Africa. There is so much good, and we want to help them all. And then we realise that we can... very slowly.

Small non-profits don't just need money. Although they do need that, and lots of it. They also need publicity. They need people to know that they exist. They need you to find them in the mess of glorious good things that you could put your dollars and your hands and feet behind. They need to have their stories told.

We love their stories. We love their good, strong hearts. We're beside ourselves with the excitement of partnering with these world-changing human beings.

I can't remember why we thought of cards. We could have designed anything, right? We could have made t-shirts or wallpaper or sock monkeys or tiny houses. I don't know, maybe we will. But we're starting with cards. Because we love people we can't see, but we also love the ones that we can. We'd like to give our friends a chance to feel a part of something meaningful when they send or receive one of our kind or cheeky cards. We want everyone to participate.

We believe that people are made to love - that that is the most vital part of them. That corner of our soul begs the most tending and watering. And with every purchase we make, every action we take, every moment of time that we schedule, we would like to be loving as many people as possible - and harming as few.

We believe that you want the very same things. Let's figure out how to do that together.

Thank you for joining us,
Jessy and Natalie
